As you are aware, traffic in front of schools can become congested during drop off and pick up. We ask all parents to please cooperate with existing signage and traffic laws. Most notably:

  1. If you are dropping off or picking up your children, do not double park your car and allow your children to enter or exit your vehicle while in a traffic lane.

  2. Do not park in areas that are marked with red curbs or in areas designated for school bus zones.

  3. If there is no direct access into a “drop-off” zone, you must continue forward on the street so as not to impede traffic behind you. Failure to do so may result in a citation being mailed to you by the City of Lawndale.

We also encourage parents to consider walking with their children to school whenever possible to help ease congestion. For more information about Safe Routes to School, visit www.lawndalesd.net/srts

On behalf of the Ellison S. Onizuka Memorial Committee, El Camino College, and American Honda Motor Co., Inc., you are cordially invited to participate in Onizuka Space Science Day 2020 at El Camino College on Saturday, March 7. This year marks the 34th anniversary of the Space Shuttle Challenger accident that took the lives of the seven crew members including Ellison Onizuka.

The day is designed for serious-minded science students in grades 5 through 12. Once again, the whole event is FREE – including lunch for the first 900 students. We are expecting another great turnout as well as an enjoyable and informative day.

This year's featured NASA Astronaut is Mark T. Vande Hei. Vande Hei was the Flight Engineer for the Expedition crew that launched the International Space Station in 2017. He logged 168 days in space and ventured outside the space station on four spacewalks. The total duration of the spacewalks was 26 hours and 42 minutes. Mr. Vande Hei is currently serving as the assistant to the chief astronaut for extravehicular activity and robotics.

Because of limited space, and to ensure a seat and early check-in, students should sign up now. To make reservations go to

www.elcamino.edu/spaceday

More information will be sent as the date nears to all who sign up. Check-in will begin shortly before 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 7. The day will end just after lunch with the awards for the Egg Drop Competition. Once again, parents, teachers, and administrators are welcome and encouraged to attend. Important Note: Because of the demand to attend Space Science Day, we want to ensure as many students as possible participate in the classroom breakout sessions. Therefore, parents and/or adults will be asked to not select tickets to the breakout sessions as during check-in that morning. Adults will be able to stand in or outside of the classrooms or may enjoy our outside demonstrations. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Last spring, we notified all parents that the district would no longer send home paper score reports for CAASPP assessments (SBAC, CAA or Science) or for ELPAC (language assessment).

Current 6th grade students took the California Science Test in Spring 2019 (when they were in 5th grade). The test results from last spring are now available, so we are using this as a time to remind parents to log into their PowerSchool accounts to access the results.

To create a PowerSchool account, you will need an email address, an Access ID and an Access Password. If you have more than one child in the district, you will need an Access ID and Access Password for each child.

If you need assistance, please contact the Community Liaison at your student's school.

Click here to go to PowerSchool.
